Bandh Called in Goshamahal Over Proposed Osmania Hospital Construction
Hyderabad: A bandh has been called in Goshamahal, Hyderabad, to protest the construction of the new Osmania Hospital. The Goshamahal Parirakshana Samiti, leading the opposition to the project, has organized a shutdown on Friday, raising concerns over its potential impacts.
Concerns Raised by Locals
Residents and business owners in Goshamahal have strongly objected to the proposed hospital, citing issues such as increased traffic congestion, disruption to local businesses, and possible environmental consequences.
Security Measures in Place
In anticipation of the protests, a heavy police presence has been deployed in Goshamahal to maintain law and order. The situation escalated as locals threatened to block Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy from attending the foundation-laying ceremony for the hospital. To prevent unrest, authorities placed Purushottam, president of the Goshamahal Parirakshana Samiti, under house arrest ahead of the scheduled demonstrations.
BJP Corporators Oppose the Project
Earlier, dramatic protests unfolded during the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) general meeting, where BJP corporators voiced their opposition to the new hospital's location. They suggested that the hospital be constructed on land behind the existing Osmania Hospital instead.
Despite the protests, the foundation stone for the new Osmania General Hospital is set to be laid on Friday by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in Goshamahal.
