MHA Directs Three IPS Officers in Telangana to Report to Andhra Pradesh Cadre
Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday, February 21, ordered three IPS officers serving in Telangana to report to their home cadre in Andhra Pradesh (AP) within 24 hours.
The officers include former Telangana DGP and chairman for road safety Anjani Kumar, Karimnagar Police Commissioner Abhishek Mohanty, and Police Academy Director Abhilasha Bisht.
During the bifurcation of Telangana from united Andhra Pradesh, certain IPS officers were allocated to the AP cadre by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). In March 2016, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Hyderabad issued orders assigning Anjani Kumar, Abhilasha Bisht, Abhishek Mohanty, and several IAS officers, including D Ronald Rose and Amrapali Kata, to either Telangana or Andhra Pradesh.
However, this allocation was contested by the DoPT, and the officers secured a stay on their reassignment to AP.
In 2024, IAS officer Amrapali Kata’s request to be allocated to the Telangana cadre was denied, requiring her to return to AP. Similarly, Ronald Rose was also sent back. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions rejected Kata’s plea, with the Khandekar Committee determining that her request to swap cadres was beyond established guidelines—guidelines previously upheld by the Telangana High Court.
Following this, speculation arose that three IPS officers might face a similar decision. The latest directive from the MHA now requires the Telangana government to relieve them from their duties immediately.
