In a major push towards road safety and driving license transparency, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated two Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) in Haridwar and Rishikesh. Developed under Maruti Suzuki’s CSR initiative, these high-tech facilities aim to ensure efficient, unbiased evaluation of driving skills.
Equipped with high-definition cameras and advanced IT systems, the ADTTs enable 100% computerized testing for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and two-wheelers. The evaluation process aligns with Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), removing human intervention and promoting transparency.
These two new ADTTs join an existing facility in Dehradun, operational since 2019, which was previously recognized by the Uttarakhand Government for excellence in governance. Speaking at the event, Brijesh Kumar Sant (IAS), Secretary, Transport Department, said, “Maruti Suzuki’s continued support has helped improve road safety in the state. From establishing the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research in 2009 to refresher training for Char Dham yatra drivers, the partnership has grown stronger.”
Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, emphasized the role of skilled drivers in boosting tourism and road safety. “With tourism as a key growth driver in Uttarakhand, ADTTs ensure that only competent drivers get licenses. Our refresher training program also prepares commercial drivers for the demanding Char Dham yatra route. This year, we aim to train around 11,000 drivers.”
Interestingly, automated testing initially leads to a dip in pass rates. Dehradun’s ADTT saw pass rates drop to 60% in FY 2019-20, which later improved to 69%, reflecting better preparation by applicants.
