Lockdown in UT extended till Jan 2

Puducherry, Dec 16 (UNI) The Covid-19 lockdown has been extended in the Union Territory till January 2 from midnight of Wednesday, by giving further relaxations.
A Government notification issued last night said, night curfew is being lifted on December 24 and 25, 30, 31 and January 1 to enable people to celebrate Christmas and new year.
A large number of tourists used to throng Puducherry to celebrate Christmas and new year and the celebration was a low-key affair during the last two years due to the outbreak of Covid pandemic.
With the reduction in the number of Covid cases, the government permitted the Christmas and new year celebrations in the UT.
The curfew will be in force from 2 AM to 5 AM on December 31, Jan 1 and 2.
The government advised the people to follow all Covid protocols and celebrate the Christmas and new year besides during cultural programmes.
In view of the new year, all liquor shops were permitted to keep open till late in the night.
All other conditions of the lockdown remained unchanged, the notification added.- uni
