National Conference Celebrates Right to Information Act's Anniversary

In commemoration of the anniversary of the Right to Information Act, a national awareness conference was held at the Somajiguda Press Club in Hyderabad. This event was organized under the leadership of Dr. Bommara Boyana Keshavalu, Chairman of the Right to Information Protection Committee. The conference featured the presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. Banda Prakash, Varre Venkateswarlu, Justice Grandhi Bhavani Prasad, and the retired IAS officer N. Muktaswarao. Former Chief Information Commissioners from both states presided over the conference. Telangana's Chief Minister emphasized the importance of officials being accountable to the public to enhance transparency in administration and combat corruption.Bandaprakash Garu, the Deputy Chairman of the Telangana State Legislative Council, expressed concerns about the central government's weakening of the Right to Information Act. He highlighted the Act's significance in empowering citizens and holding authorities accountable.Former High Court Justice Grandhi Bhavani Prasad stressed the importance of laws that ensure equal justice for all, regardless of their socio-economic background. He urged comprehensive awareness and understanding of this crucial legislation.Retired Collector N. Muteswarao and CBI Retired Balakishan Ravugaru emphasized the fear this law instills in officials and the positive impact it can have if diligently implemented.The program saw participation from various district convenors, artists, and notable figures, including Dr. Messy Hair, the National President, and Usharani, the State Convener. Dr. Bommara Boina Kesavulu, the National Chairman of the Information Protection Committee, discussed the committee's role in raising awareness about the Right to Information Act. He emphasized citizens' rights to access information about government activities, funding, and welfare.Additionally, he praised the Rythubandu and Rythu Bhima schemes in Telangana, which represent significant advancements in the agricultural sector.
