Osmania University Hosts National Seminar on Post-Pandemic Virus Research

October 11th, 2023 - The Department of Microbiology at Osmania University, in partnership with St. Pious X Degree and PG College for Women and MNR Degree & PG College, orchestrated a national seminar under the theme "Post-Pandemic Scenario: Impending Virus Research." This event featured an array of eminent speakers and experts who illuminated the complexities of global health challenges and emphasized the necessity of preparedness for future pandemics.

Dr. Nagendra R. Hedge, Scientist-H from NIAB Hyderabad, was among the distinguished speakers who shed light on critical global health challenges. His insights underscored the vital need for proactive measures in the face of impending pandemics. The event was also graced by Dr. Panduranga Rao Pavuluri, Vice-President at Viral Vaccines Biological E Limited, who delved into discussions on global health challenges and the development of vaccines.

The seminar boasted a lineup of experts, including Dr. Gireesha Mohannathan (BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus), Dr. Kalyani Putty (PVNRTVU), and Dr. Radhakrishna Muttineni (OU), who addressed topics such as emerging viruses and the pivotal role of virology in public health.

Eminent guests attended the event, including Chief Guest Prof. B. Veeraiah (Principal, ICS, OU), Guests of Honor Prof. B. Reddya Naik (OSD to VC), and Prof. K Nagamani (Gandhi Medical College). Additionally, Prof. Gopal Reddy, Prof. B. Bhima (Principal, Nizam College), and Prof. Burgula Sandeepta (Head & Director, CFRD), along with Principals of the associated colleges, Dr. Sr. Velangini and Mr. M. Prasad, graced the occasion. Their presence reaffirmed the commitment to advancing virus research in a post-pandemic world.

The seminar was convened by Dr. Hameeda Bee (C-Bos, Microbiology) and organized by Dr. K. Shanthi Kumari, Dr. B. Susmitha, and Dr. Kodaparthi Ashwitha. The event brought together more than 360 students and faculty members from various academic institutions, fostering collaborations and a shared dedication to tackling virus-related challenges in the post-pandemic era. Seminars of this nature play a pivotal role in advancing scientific knowledge and inspire younger generations to explore new avenues in viral research, contributing to the global battle against infectious diseases.
