KCR ignored Telangana water share: Revanth

Telangana Congress President A. Revanth Reddy blamed Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for the ongoing water dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, saying the CM had deliberately held to away from Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) meetings.

Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, he recalled that despite appeals from the Congress party and other irrigation experts, the chief minister chose to ignore the issue entirely before being forced to act in reason for the intervention of the Court.

He said CM KCR and then irrigation minister T. Harish Rao had agreed in New Delhi to use 299 TMC for Telangana and 512 TMC for Andhra Pradesh for one year. However, they continued the same use for the next five years without even discussing the new subdivision for the new state.

Mr Reddy alleged that Andhra Pradesh government’s GO 203 for the Rayalaseema Elevator Irrigation Project had the full support of KCR, as KCR and Jaganmohan Reddy engaged in lunch diplomacy in the Pragati Bhavan fair after the project was announced to the PA Assembly. The GO wishes to take three TMCs for the project each day from Krishna Basin. He said Mr. KCR did not even react to the PA chief ministers’ grand plans for the project at their meeting or later. However, Congress leader and former Minister Nagam Janardhan Reddy had written a letter to CM KCR stressing how southern Telangana would forever turn into a desert if the PA project went ahead and the need to stop it immediately. But there was only KCR’s silence, he said.

Accusing the CM of following a hidden agenda, the congressional leader also claimed that the TS government accepted 299 TMCs at the KRMB meeting on Wednesday. Where are the ministers in southern Telangana who made big announcements asking for 50% of the shares, he asked. Maybe the CM is busy with the dinner hosted at Nama Ngeshwar Raos’ house in New Delhi, he said sarcastically.

The TPCC chief said that, as usual, KCR is trying to divert the problem to power generation after failing to protect Telangana’s water share. In addition, the government is raising questions that were outside the purview of the KRMB to create confusion.

Attacking BJP state president Bandi Sanjay, he called on the parties to stand on Krishna’s waters. Mr. Sanjay’s padayatra would yield nothing as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and KCR were working together for their mutual interests.

Tributes to YSR

Earlier, Mr. Reddy along with senior leaders Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Mohd Shabbir Ali, KVP Ramchander Rao paid rich tributes to the contribution of the late Chief Minister YS Rajashekhar Reddy on the occasion of his death anniversary. He said YSR is keen to make Rahul Gandhi the prime minister of the country and will endeavor to do the same.
