District Collector D Harichandana called for the success of the National Weed Eradication Program to be carried out from the 25th to the 31st of this month. The Collector on Monday held a teleconference with the staff of the medical health and its allied departments.

The Collector said that 592 Asha workers and 700 Anganwadi teachers would go door to door and distribute free Albendazole tablets to children aged one to 19 years in the district. Due to the Covid the event, which was to be held twice a year, was not held due to the corona, and this time due to the closure of schools, Anganwadis, and colleges, all the students were conducting online classes at home, so the medical health staff would go directly to their homes and distribute the tablets.

The Collector suggested taking half a tablet for children under one to two years of age and one tablet of Albendazole for children under 3 to 19 years of age.  Special rapid response teams have been set up for this purpose.  It was revealed that 1,61,915 children have been identified across the district.

Participating in the teleconference, DMHO Dr. Manohar Rao said that children would get sick if they went outside and ate without washing their hands.  Infected children are more likely to have abdominal pain, malnutrition, and anemia. This can lead to misfortunes such as not going to school properly and not being active.

Additional District Collector K Chandra Reddy, DIO Dr. Shailaja, DRDO Gopal Nayak, Welfare Department officials Venugopal and DPO Murali were present on the occasion.
