Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who also holds the education portfolio, announced plans to raise the state’s education budget from 7% to 15% in the near future. He stated that he chose to oversee the education department personally to ensure this significant increase.

Speaking to students at the 150th-year celebrations of Mogiligidda High School in Rangareddy district, Reddy reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving the quality of education and skill development. He revealed that discussions are underway with Stanford University for potential collaboration with Telangana’s upcoming Skill University.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the legacy of several notable figures who were alumni of Mogiligidda High School, including Burgula Ramakrishna Rao, the first Chief Minister of Hyderabad State after its merger with the Indian Union, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Marri Chenna Reddy, and freedom fighter Turrebaaz Khan, who was martyred after being arrested in the village for his militant struggle against British forces.

Reddy noted the disparity between government and private schools, with private institutions showing remarkable performance, and stressed the need to bridge this gap.

In terms of local development, the CM announced that the state has approved an advanced technology center for skills development in Mogiligidda for SSC and intermediate pass-outs. Additionally, Rs 16 crore has been sanctioned for constructing a new school block, library, gram panchayat office, and CC roads in the village. He also mentioned plans to build a minorities’ community hall in the village soon.

Regarding education funding, the state government is gradually increasing the allocation to the education sector, with Rs 21,000 crore designated in the current year’s budget. Reddy emphasized that after the Congress government assumed power in Telangana, Vice Chancellors were appointed to universities, 21,000 school teachers were promoted, and transfers of 35,000 teachers were completed without complaints.

The Chief Minister also noted that the state government had raised student diet and cosmetic charges by 200%, relieving parents of minor expenses. Additionally, plans are in motion to establish a Young India Sports University under a PPP model to foster talent from across the country.
