Telangana Government Declares Holiday for Shab-e-Barat
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced a holiday for Shab-e-Barat, observed on the 15th of Shaban, the eighth month in the Islamic calendar. While the state government’s calendar had earlier marked February 14 as a holiday for Shab-e-Meraj under optional holidays, it was not categorized as a general holiday.
With the sighting of the moon, it is now confirmed that the holiday for Shab-e-Barat will be observed next Friday.
Shab-e-Barat
Shab-e-Barat, often referred to as the "Night of Forgiveness," is celebrated with immense devotion across the world. On this occasion, people visit the graves of their loved ones in the evening, offering prayers and paying their respects. Some also observe fasting on this holy night.
School Holidays for Shab-e-Barat in Telangana
Although February 14 is listed as an optional holiday, several schools in Telangana, particularly minority institutions, are expected to remain closed next Friday.

The state will observe three holidays in February, including one general and two optional holidays:

- Shab-e-Barat (February 14)
- General Holiday:
- Mahashivaratri (February 26)
It is also customary for minority educational institutions in Telangana to declare a holiday the day after Shab-e-Barat.
